Chenab’s Rising Waters Put Multan–Muzaffargarh Road in Serious Danger

Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has issued a flood alert after the waters of the Chenab River started flowing dangerously. This is very acute at the Sher Shah Pull, a strategic connection between Multan and Muzaffargarh and other southern cities.

The latest this afternoon is that the flood waters are getting dangerously close to the toll plaza near Sher Shah Pull. PSCA warned that this bridge has become a lifeline for many, but the torrents are washing it away, and once washed away, it will sever the connection between Multan, Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan.

In a post to their official Facebook page, PSCA explained the severity of the situation:

The Risk

• Sher Shah Pull is about to be flooded, and will essentially isolate urban areas from each other.
• Transportation networks and supply chains across South Punjab are about to suffer a huge hit. 
• Emergency services may be hindered, and local communities may be isolated from access to goods and services.

A Must-Know Traveler Alert

In light of this, we advise all travellers and area residents to do the following:

• If you are out on the road and need to pass Sher Shah Pull, now is the time — get back home as soon as possible.
• Once the floodwaters have claimed the toll plaza, no traffic can get through.
• Taking your time can be a recipe for disaster, and indecision could leave you stranded in a dangerous situation.
• Share this message with friends, family, and colleagues and help to build a common culture of safety.
