The Crackdown on E-Challan Defaulters has Officially Kicked off Across the Whole of Punjab!

The Punjab Traffic Police is now running a strict campaign across the entire province to catch drivers who haven’t paid their traffic fines, known as e-challans. This effort started earlier just in Lahore, but has now been rolled out to every district in Punjab.

Dr. Athar Waheed, Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), explained the change. Starting this week, all traffic police officers and highway patrols throughout Punjab can stop vehicles with unpaid e-challans. They use a special mobile app that instantly checks if a vehicle has any pending fines. Officers can then collect the fine payment right there on the spot.

Previously, only special teams operating within Lahore had this authority. Now, every regular traffic warden and highway officer across Punjab has the power to directly check for and collect unpaid fines during roadside stops.

This province-wide enforcement push is already getting results. First, in May, over 37,000 people paid their fines, totaling Rs. 22.6 million. Then, in June, payments surged significantly to Rs. 86 million collected from 129,000 individuals. Combined, the Punjab Traffic Police recovered an impressive Rs. 108.6 million in just these two months.

To avoid extra penalties or trouble, it’s really important to pay any unpaid traffic fines (called challans) right away. You’ll need to type in your vehicle’s license plate number plus either your ID card (CNIC) number or the vehicle’s chassis number. Cracks Down on Fake and Fancy License Plates in Lahore

Beginning this Friday, drivers caught with them won’t just get a ticket – they could face serious police reports (called FIRs). The goal? To give people a fair chance, the Lahore traffic police, led by Chief Traffic Officer Dr. Athar Waheed, offered a three-day warning period. This time allowed drivers to learn the rules and fix their plates voluntarily. That deadline has now passed. If you’re caught with fake or altered plates, you’ll face legal trouble.
