Smog Crackdown in Islamabad: How Pak-EPA is Tackling Pollution with Strong Enforcement Measures

The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has collaborated with the Islamabad traffic police, the Ministry of Climate Change, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA). This collaboration has been done to impose the anti-smog drive from December 1, 2025. As govt. Stated that the transport sector is one of the major contributors to smog in urban areas.

Key Measures in the Smog Crackdown

The Pak-EPA has recently run a campaign on zero-tolerance policies to make the capital pollution-free. If we look closer at the first week’s performance, around 1000 vehicles have been inspected. The results are positive, as around 80% vehicles pass the test. However, more than 80 vehicles have been seized that failed to meet the emission requirements.

Introduction of New Emission Testing Stations

The residents of Islamabad have raised the issue that the inspection has been consuming more time. The govt., in order to fasten the process, has introduced 4 new emission testing stations in Islamabad. These testing stations are located across the city at:

• D-Chowk
• Lake View Park
• Metro Cash & Carry
• F-9 Park

These additional installations will not only speed up the inspections but also make it easier for people to come to more nearby options.

Industrial Pollution: A Zero-Tolerance Approach
