Mandatory Fitness Certificates for Heavy Vehicles Entering Lahore

In response to the growing threat of dangerous smog, Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Dr. Asad Wahid, today announced a new and major step to curb emissions from heavy vehicles.

What New Emission Rule Will Take Effect From October 1?

As of October 1, no heavy trucks or buses will be allowed to enter the city limits if they don’t have a valid fitness certificate. The order, mandated by Section 39 of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance of 1965, demonstrates the seriousness of the problem and the city’s commitment to the fight against air pollution.

How Will Lahore Enforce This Rule?

Dr. Wahid said he was determined to launch a strong crackdown on cars that polluted the air. He also said that the traffic police are preparing for the enforcement of the rules on a large scale. Since January, more than 26,300 fines have been handed to offenders for releasing harmful smoke into the atmosphere.

The CTO talked about how the poor air quality has serious health consequences, and that the emissions from vehicles are one of the reasons for respiratory and other health problems.
