Drones are Set To Monitor Traffic Violations Like Never Before

Have you ever felt like someone is watching you while driving in Islamabad? You’re right! The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has started using drones to ensure that everyone follows traffic rules. Drones are small flying machines that can take pictures from above, usually used for capturing beautiful views. But now, they’re helping the police keep our roads safe.

Recently, these drones were used in a big operation on major roads like the Expressway and Srinagar Highway. They helped catch over 300 drivers who were not following the rules. However, it’s not just about giving fines; the ITP also educated more than 350 people about traffic laws. This way, drivers can learn from their mistakes and help make the roads safer for everyone.

This initiative shows how technology can be used to improve road safety and educate drivers.

Islamabad Takes to the Skies: Drones Enforce Traffic Safety

Guided by Chief Traffic Officer Captain (R) Syed Zeeshan Haider, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) is using drone monitoring to watch over city roads in real-time. This high-tech approach ensures traffic rules are strictly followed. Flying cameras spot all kinds of dangerous driving, such as:

• Ignoring lane markings: Cutting across lanes dangerously.
• Overloaded vehicles: Cars or trucks carrying too much weight, making them unsafe.
• One-wheeling: Performing risky motorcycle stunts.
• Other reckless actions: Any behavior putting drivers, passengers, or pedestrians at risk.

The clear video evidence captured by these drones allows the ITP to take legal action. Already, over 300 drivers have been fined for violations. In the most serious cases, vehicles involved in major offences have even been seized. As CTO Zeeshan explained, “Drone footage helps us spot violations instantly. Fines are issued on the spot, and sometimes vehicles are impounded.” This makes enforcement much faster and more effective.

But drone monitoring does more than just catch rule-breakers. It’s also a powerful tool for easing traffic jams. The ITP uses the live drone views to quickly identify major congestion hotspots on busy roads. Once a bottleneck is found, special traffic teams can be sent immediately to clear the blockage and get vehicles moving smoothly again.

This drone program is just starting! The ITP plans to expand this aerial surveillance to cover all city sectors and more main roads.
