Driving Licenses & Road Safety Efforts

The Punjab Police have had an exceptionally busy year. Across the province, they’ve processed and handed out a remarkable number of 4.876 million licenses. That’s like giving every person in a large city permission to drive legally!

With so many new drivers, enforcing traffic rules becomes crucial. Officers issued over 7.3 million tickets (called “challans”) for violations, collecting fines totaling more than Rs. 4.52 billion. To put that in perspective, it’s enough money to improve traffic processes for safety purposes! These traffic fines aren’t just about collecting funds, they hold drivers accountable and discourage reckless habits that endanger everyone. 

A major focus was environmental health: roughly 2.5 million fines targeted smoky vehicles, showing a commitment to cleaner air alongside safer roads. Beyond financial penalties, strict actions were taken: 22,276 vehicles were temporarily seized, and 214 vehicle fitness certificates—documents proving a vehicle is roadworthy—were revoked for serious offenses.

Punjab Police Get Tough on Traffic Safety

Punjab’s top police officer, Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar, is making his stance crystal clear. He’s ordered police to keep ramping up their crackdown on traffic violators across the province. A major focus? Tracking down drivers who haven’t paid their fines and making sure those outstanding penalties are collected. This strong push highlights the police force’s unwavering commitment to seeing this vital traffic safety mission through to the finish.

But here’s the proactive part of the plan: it’s not just about punishment. IGP Anwar emphasized that Punjab Police are also heavily invested in prevention. They directly operate 127 driving schools right now, providing hands-on training to new drivers. This forward-thinking strategy aims to equip citizens right from the start with the essential skills and responsible habits needed for safer journeys, building a stronger culture of road safety for everyone.

Lahore Cracks Down on Dangerous Stunts and Young Drivers

Lahore, a huge and busy city, faces tough problems with risky behaviour, especially stunt motorcycle riding (“one-wheeling”) and driving by people too young to have a licence. The Lahore Police are cracking down hard on these dangerous activities right now.

Just in July, police caught 126 people popping wheelies and started legal cases against every single one. Looking back over the whole of last year shows how serious this crackdown is: a massive 1,187 stunt riders were arrested, leading to 1,067 official cases. These numbers prove the police are actively fighting this threat to everyone’s safety.

Police Chief Bilal Siddique Kamyana (CCPO) clearly states operations won’t stop. To catch law-breakers, special checkpoints watch busy roads like highways. Crucially, different police units like, Traffic Police, the fast-response Dolphin Squad, and special teams are teaming up to enhance processes and ensure the law supremacy in Punjab. Their combined crackdown aims directly at stopping underage drivers, reckless one-wheeling, and illegal street racing, making Lahore’s roads safer for all. This teamwork is key to saving lives.
