Honda has just launched the HR-V E:HEV, marking a big step: it’s their first hybrid car ever built locally! This hybrid version of the popular HR-V enters a competitive market of hybrids, it naturally invokes Toyota’s Corolla Cross for comparison with base HEV trim. Both are compact SUVs hitting the market at the exact same ex-factory price of PKR 8,999,000/-.

More importantly, both rely on advanced dual-motor hybrid systems to power their wheels efficiently and properly. This makes them perfect competitors for a head-to-head look. Each vehicle flaunts its brand’s newest design style, promises excellent fuel economy and solid practicality, ideal for mid-sized families.

Let’s see how these two hybrid cars stack up:

Engine and Performance

The Toyota Corolla Cross has a larger engine size than the Honda HR-V, but actually makes a bit less power. Where the HR-V really shines is its electric motor, it packs more torque and horsepower than the Toyota Cross. This likely gives the HR-V a stronger boost when driving in electric mode.

Dimensions

The Toyota Corolla Cross is a bit bigger in height, width, and length. This extra size often means more room inside for the passengers and cargo. Meanwhile, the Honda HR-V offers better ground clearance than Toyota Cross. Think of this as extra space beneath the car,  it helps avoid bumps and potholes on rough or uneven roads.

Length (mm) 4,460 *4347
Width (mm) 1,825 *1790

Interior Features

The biggest letdown inside the HR-V compared  to Cross is the climate control. While the Cross lets the driver and front passenger to set temperature on their own, the HR-V only has one setting for the whole front area (single-zone). This is surprising because new cars in this price segment come with dual-zone climate control.

Exterior Features

Another downside is that the HR-V doesn’t have a sunroof. Its wheels are an inch bigger than the Cross, though that might not matter much. Let’s be honest, the missing sunroof could be a big NO for many buyers. People who really like sunroofs might look at other options in the market.

Safety Features

When it comes to safety features, the Honda HR-V pulls ahead of the Toyota Corolla Cross. The Corolla Cross safety package does include one extra airbag near to the driver’s knees. However, the Honda HR-V safety advantage is much higher because it comes standard with Honda Sensing. Think of Honda Sensing as a smart co-pilot system. This system boasts a range of advanced driving assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, collision mitigation braking, and road departure mitigation. These elements that the Toyota Corolla Cross simply does not offer.

Concluding Remarks

Both the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and Honda HR-V Hybrid are popular hybrid cars in Pakistan. These compact SUVs come from famous and well-reputed Japanese brands that have strong credibility and trustworthiness in Pakistan.

The Corolla Cross Hybrid shines as a practical, easy-to-use choice for daily driving. On the other hand, Honda HR-V Hybrid offers standout safety features with its cutting-edge Honda Sensing tech. Your best pick really comes down to what you value the most: smooth performance, comfort, safety, family SUV, or any other convincing features according to specific need or desire.

Important Note on Toyota’s Power: Toyota doesn’t publish an official combined torque number for the Corolla Cross Hybrid. The figure you often see is an educated guess. It’s based on other Toyota hybrids that use the same 1.8-liter engine and hybrid system.
