Pak Suzuki is sounding the alarm about government plans to make importing used cars easier and change import taxes. The company calls these ideas “unsustainable” and warns they could cause “disastrous” harm to Pakistan’s own car-making industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Suzuki is Worried<\/strong><\/h2>\n

At a meeting in Lahore, Suzuki’s top boss in Pakistan, Hiroshi Kawamura, explained the company’s fears. Executives pointed out a big problem: right now, used cars brought in from other countries already grab a quarter (25%) of all car sales in Pakistan. Meanwhile, the factories building cars inside Pakistan are only running at 40% of their full ability. That means these local plants aren’t being used nearly enough.<\/span><\/p>\n

Suzuki’s leaders stressed that no country seriously making its own cars allows such a heavy flow of used imports. Making it even easier to bring in used cars, they argued, could seriously damage local production. This could lead to many people losing their jobs. “We’ve spent over forty years building this industry from nothing,” the company stated. “Breaking it down now would be a huge mistake.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Suzuki Pakistan Responds to New Car Tax Rules and Model Changes<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Recent news reports explain Suzuki Pakistan’s reaction to Pakistan’s new National Tariff Policy for 2025\u20132030. The auto company agrees with the policy’s goal of lowering costs for raw materials used in local car making. However, Suzuki Pakistan strongly disagrees with any plans to cut import taxes on finished cars brought into the country. They warn that letting in cheaper, fully built imported cars would hurt local car assembly plants. This could damage Pakistan’s auto industry and its future growth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alongside this policy view, Suzuki confirmed big changes to its car lineup. The popular Cultus and Wagon R models will be stopped. Don’t worry, though. The company is already developing brand-new replacements for these cars. This is part of Suzuki’s larger plan to upgrade its vehicles. Furthermore, Suzuki Pakistan is adding a completely new SUV to its range. A test launch for this new Suzuki SUV is coming very soon. The company promises this expansion aims to offer more choices while keeping prices reasonable for Pakistani buyers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Local Sourcing, Prices & Healthy Supply Chains<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Suzuki shared how strong its local supply chain is. They partner with over 100 Pakistani part-makers, buying more than Rs. 50 billion worth of local parts yearly. These same suppliers also help other car companies, making Pakistan’s auto industry stronger overall.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently, Suzuki showed how well local sourcing works by launching the Suzuki Every here. They also confirmed the Suzuki Ravi will return after the Bolan model gets redesigned. The company explained that taxes add a huge 40% to a car’s final price. This makes it really hard to cut costs or add new features without making cars too expensive for buyers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reports show Pak Suzuki\u2019s main goal has always been keeping cars affordable. They do this by avoiding waste, using local parts, and focusing only on what buyers truly need.<\/span><\/p>\n

Suzuki Pakistan: Hybrid First, Electric Vehicles Later<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Suzuki Pakistan’s head, Kawamura, recognizes the global move towards electric vehicles but says jumping in now isn’t practical for them. “Setting up the needed charging stations and systems is a big, long-term goal,” he explained. “We’re paying attention to electric vehicles, but we aren’t ready to launch any yet.” Instead, the company is focusing its efforts on creating a hybrid vehicle tailored for Pakistani drivers. They plan to share launch details for this hybrid vehicle soon.<\/span><\/p>\n
